Der fliegende Robert

Der heimliche Höhepunkt von Christian Asbachs Arbeit der letzten Jahre war ein Dreh mit den Schülern der gesamten Stöffelmaus-Grundschule in seiner Heimat Westerwald. Von langer Hand geplant, aber doch spontan und situativ, haben die Kinder von 6 bis 10 Jahren gebastelt, vorgetragen, musiziert und animiert. Unter Anleitung von Christian haben sie die Verfilmung eines Gedichtes aus dem Struwwelpeter gestalterisch in sehr poetischer Weise geprägt. Einen Adelsschlag erhielt der Film durch die Präsentation auf dem Jugendmedienfestival REC in Berlin - zu dem die gesamte Schule in einem Reisebus mit Begleitfahrzeugen angereist kam.

A full week of concentrated, well prepared work with children and youths is to Christian's experience the most rewarding form of film production. So he was more than happy to accept an invitation to work with the 60 pupils of Stöffelmaus primary school in his home county Westerwald. 5 days long the kids age 6 to 10 brought the poem "The Story of Flying Robert" out of Heinrich Hoffmann's "Shock-headed Peter" to cinematic life. Set design, character design, execution of animated sequences, theatric reading in german and in english (sic!) - all lay in the hands of the kids. The staff of the school and most of the parents were intensely engaged in the process. Surprising climax of the project was the nomination of the film for REC Youth Media Award, and a trip of the entire school to berlin for the festival.
